The First Ten Lies They Tell You In High School

Inspired by Yalsa-bk, and busy working on an upgrade for this site, this week I'm doing a series on wisdom from YA lit.

From Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson:
The First Ten Lies They Tell You In High School
1. We are here to help you.
2. You will have enough time to get to your class before the bell rings.
3. The dress code will be enforced.
4. No smoking is allowed on school grounds.
5. Our football team will win the championship this year.
6. We expect more from you here.
7. Guidance counselors are always available to listen.
8. Your schedule was created with your needs in mind.
9. Your locker combination is private.
10. These will be the best years of your life.

Yes, I think that is pretty accurate based on my high school experience.

Yep its true, im a sophomore and its all sooooo true! ALL OF IT IS LIES. for one, most of your teachers are either unavailable when u CAN go see them or they are helping someone else, i have a hard time getting to my classes, dress code is enforced... by a handful of teachers... if that, ppl smoke alllll the time, our team sucks, not a lot is expected at all, its hard to catch ur guidance counselor, erm since when do we get to pick the order of our classes, i share my locker with my friends and their friends, I HATE THIS STUPID THING!!!
